As part of the measures to adequately resource the three schools of hygiene in the country to enhance teaching and learning, the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources has donated assorted laboratory equipments to support the school to run effectively and efficiently.
The gesture is under the auspices of the Greater Accra Sustainable Sanitation and Livelihoo0ds Improvement Project (GASSLIP) for the three schools of hygiene in Accra, Ho and Tamale as beneficiaries.
The items includes 1 inoculation chambers (laminal flow hood), 3 stuart scientific hot plates, 3 heidolph hei-conneect magnetic stirrers, 6 culture plates, 300 magnetic filters, 50 forceps, 3 analytical balances, 3 desiccators, 3 bunsen burners, 3 weighing scales.
The rest were 15 adjustable volume calibrated micropipettes, 600 glass pipettes and bulbs, 3 benchtop conductivity, 150 spatulas, 150 stirring rods, 300 conical flasks, 120 wash bottles.
Others were 300 glass funnels, 300 volumetric flasks, 100 test tube holders, 1000 test tubes, 30 measuring cylinders, 3 weighing scales, 100 screw cap and plastic containers (4000 ml), 6 multifunctional photocopiers, 18 all in one colour printers and 6 projectors.
Presenting the items, the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Mrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah commended the management of GASSLIP for their tremendous support of ensuring that the schools are well equipped to build the capacities of students to enable them be abreast with the emerging trends in the hygiene space.
According to her, the ultramodern equipments will help improve the learning environment of the management and staff of the respective schools, adding that hygiene plays a significant role in environmental cleanliness as well as healthcare delivery.
She however challenged students to take their studies serious and practically demonstrate their commitments in the fields of works and use also the items for the intended purpose.
Receiving the items, the Principal of the Accra School of Hygiene, Mr. Smile Kobina Ametsi thanked the Ministry for their unflinching support to the various schools and the prompt payment of training allowance of students as well as their timely posting to their working offices.
“The schools will work closely with the Ministry for the country to achieve the SDGs goal 6 through training and capacity building for students”, he said.
The Principal added that management and staff will equally participate in the training programme as part of the drive to scale up the operations of the respective schools.
