The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has described President John Mahama’s “self-professed” fight against corruption as a “sham”.
President Mahama noted during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament last Thursday that under his watch a lot of corruption-related activities had been exposed.
According to the President, that demonstrates his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption.
But delivering what he termed ‘The Real State of the Nation Address’ at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra on Monday, Nana Addo said all the corruption scandals that had been exposed were not as a result of the President’s effort.
Rather, he said the media, civil society organisations and the Minority in Parliament had been responsible for bringing such scandals to the public’s attention.
“The many outstanding corrupt cases have not been dealt with and the President claims he is fighting corruption. The Woyome saga, the bus rebranding, AMERI and all of them, what has become of them…The so called fight against corruption is a sham, I repeat; it’s a sham,” Nana Addo added.
