Flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has said Ghanaians will reject President John Dramani Mahama at the upcoming polls like Nigerians did to their former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

He said Ghanaians will adopt such trajectory because of President Mahama’s mismanagement of the economy which has brought unbearable hardships to the people.

Speaking during his campaign tour to Bortianor/Ngleshie/Amanfro constituency in the Greater Accra Region on Friday, Nana Akufo-Addo added that Mahama and Jonathan have similarities as both of them were sworn into office accidentally following the death of their bosses.

Vice President Jonathan took over as President of Nigeria after the death of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua on May 5, 2010, while his Ghanaian counterpart was sworn into office after the demise of President John Atta Mills on July 24, 2012.

Nana Akufo-Addo said, “when we look at your track-record in office and it is poor, the people of Ghana would kick you out. The case of Goodluck Jonathan is exactly the same as that of our President. Goodluck Jonathan only became President because his boss passed away. When it came to standing election for a 2nd term, the people of Nigeria decided that he was undeserving of another term in office. There was no 2nd term for Jonathan. The same way in this year’s elections, I am confident that Ghanaians will say to Mahama No 2nd term”, especially when his party is in fact enjoying a second successive term in office.”

Too much corruption in government

Addressing crowds at the Weija Old barrier taxi station, Bortianor, Tuba, Amanfor and Galilea market; Nana Akufo-Addo said a major reason why Ghanaians are facing hardships and suffering is the widespread looting of public resources and corruption under the Mahama administration.

According to him, state resources meant for the development of country, as well as the improvement of the living standards of Ghanaians, always find their way into the pockets of public officials.

This, Akufo-Addo said, accounted for the billions of dollars contracted in loans over the last seven years yet little can be shown for it.

He said the only way for the country to return to the path of progress and prosperity, is to vote out President Mahama and the NDC.

The NPP flagbearer urged Ghanaians to bring back NPP to save the people from corruption and dissipation of public funds.

He appealed to the electorate to vote for him and the NPP parliamentary candidate for the area, Alhaji Habib Saad.
