The chief of Teshie, Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III, has counseled the indigines of Teshie to remain united regardless of the impact of foreign cultures in the fabric of society.

Nii Akomfra III made this known at the media launch of the Teshie Homowo 2019 festival at Teshie, Accra.

According to Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III, the Teshie Homowo festival, which immortalize a season of love, cooperatively and cheery making after an extended period of famine among the Ga people has unfortunately not lived up to the expectations due to the influence of foreign cultures which creates conflicts leading sometimes “petty bickering within the rank and file of society.

How can we progress as a people if we don’t stop fighting amongst ourselves”? he added.

He said that factors such as cross cutural conflict among others does not only affect the cultural bondage of peaceful co-existence but also ‘the beautiful language of the Ga people is almost at the brink of extinction’.

“How can we survive as a people if we fail to speak our mother tongue at home and at public places? how can we promote our indegenous culture if we remain copy cats of other local languages and cultures?

how can we preserve our oratory if our Kpashimo groups continue to compose their songs in Akan or Ewe and other non-GaDangbe languages”? he quizzed.

Gbetsoolo Nii Akomfra III further indicated that Teshie traditional council has for the past three years embarked on series of activities aimed at rebranding the Teshie Homowo festival in order to develop a new corporate image for the area.

Nii Akomfra noted that ” today I am proud to announce that. Thanks to this innovative strategy Teshie has celebrated subsequent Homowo festivals in absolute peace and tranquility. Now, the era of stigmatisation and ‘passovers’ by our presidents and high profile personalities is gone forever. Teshie has now become a very attractive arena for development partners and businessmen”.

He also hinted of plans by the Teshie Traditional council to launch a Ghc 500.000.00 foundation seed funded from revenues from stool land quotas, bequest, grants, donations among others to support brilliant but needy students.

Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III was declared as the substantive chief of Teshie on Tuesday, 9th July 2019 by the Gt. Accra regional house of chiefs and subsequently sworn into office at Teshie Mandzaanor on Thursday 25th July 2019.
