The Accra High Court has for the second time ordered the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, to appear before the court to show cause why he should not be punished for contempt.
Mr Agyapong, who is alleged to have described a Justice of the High court, Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni, as “stupid”, failed to show up in court Monday, [September 14, 2020].
This made Justice Wuni to order a substituted service to be served on the MP for him to appear before the court on Friday, September 18, 2020.
Per the order of the court, the summons to Mr Agyapong should be posted on the court’s notice board and on the premises of Oman FM and Net 2 TV.
What has Kennedy Agyapong done against the court?
An Accra High Court has summoned the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, to appear before it to “show cause why he should not be severely punished for contempt of court.”
There is a land case before the High Court which Kennedy Agyapong is involved.
Mr Agyapong, allegedly made a scandalised statement in the case in, which Susan Bandoh and Christopher Akuetteh Kotei had sued him (Kennedy Agyapong), one Ibrahim Jaja, Nana Yaw Duodu aka Sledge and the Inspector General of Police in a land matter.
Whilst the case is still pending, the court’s ( Land Court 12) attention has been drawn to a television (NET2 TV) and radio (Oman FM ) programme allegedly aired on September 2, this year.
In the said programme, Mr Agyapong is said to have “scandalised and threatened” the court.
A court order signed on September 9, by a High Court Judge, Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni, said, “I hereby summon the said Kennedy Ohene Agyapong per a warrant issued under my hand and seal to appear before the High Court (Land Court 12) on Monday September 14, 2020 at 10:00 am to show cause why he should not be severely punished for contempt, if the matters are proven against him to the satisfaction of the court.”
It is following this order that, Mr Agyapong’s lawyers told the court on Monday that he was not personally served.
This made the court to order the substituted service by posting the summons on the notice board of the court and the premises of Oman FM and Net 2 TV.
