An aide to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned comments by a leading member of the party against Chair of the EC, Charlotte Osei.
Abu Jinapor says the comment by Assin Central legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, claiming that Mrs Osei got her position by sleeping with power brokers is unfortunate.
“Given that Mr Agyapong has not provided anything of evidential value, by all means, the comments are unacceptable and must be condemned,” Abu Jinapor said on Joy FM/Multi TV news analysis programme, Newsfile, Saturday.
He was quick to add, however, that the condemnation of Mr Agyapong comment is his personal views, and not the party’s.
According to him, the NPP Steering Committee has not met since the comments were made by the Assin Central legislator because they have been on the campaign trail.
“If he [Ken Agyapong] came up with some evidence to back his claim I believe I will revise the position that I have just taken,” said Mr Jinapor.

Since Mr Agyapong made the scalding comments, Ministers and gender advocates have condemned him for making allegations they say are reckless, misogynistic and unbecoming of a Parliamentarian.
Gender and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur and Foreign Affairs Minister, Hannah Tetteh, have called on the MP to retract his comments against the EC Chair and apologise.
Mr Agyapong is notorious for making controversial comments.
Mr Jinapor is one of the few members of the opposition party to condemned the comments by Mr Agyapong,
Deputy Communications Director of the party, Anthony Karbo, has found nothing wrong with the comments by Mr Agyapong, noting that the Assin Central MP does not make allegations without evidence to back them.
Speaking on Newsfile, Mr Jinapor, said the party has not even met to consider whether to issue a statement on the matter.
“The party has not met to first decide whether or not to comment on this matter and even if the party will comment what will be the nature of this comment. The party goes through a process to state an official possition on any matter,” said Abu Jinapor.
He said there was a need to condemn outrageously denigrating comments against public officers holders irrespective of which political party member makes it. He said that was the only way to curb the growing insults in Ghana’s political fabric.
“Let’s condemn Kennedy Agyapong, let’s call for the politics of issues and not insults,” he urged.
