Junior doctors across the country have welcomed government’s decision to pay their 11-month salary arrears by close of day Wednesday, July 30.
This was after government reached an agreement with the angry junior doctors on Monday when they converged at the premises of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) in Accra.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu said 64 of the junior doctors would receive their monies on Wednesday while the other 27 would be paid in August.
According to him, his Ministry would collaborate with the health institutions of the remaining 27 to get them compensated for the delay by Wednesday.
Expressing his disappointment at the turn of events, Haruna Iddrisu was optimistic that “the monies should hit their accounts not later by Wednesday 4:30 pm.”
He therefore, appealed to the junior doctors “to trust that government will honour its promise.”
