Aston Villa have opened talks over an £8 million move for Lorient forward Jordan Ayew. The 23-year-old Ghana international is expected in Birmingham yesterday after talks developed quickly last Thursday.
Ayew is quick and powerful and can play across the frontline. He scored 12 goals last season in a struggling Lorient side and provided five assists in Ligue 1.
Manager Tim Sherwood wants pace to go alongside Emmanuel Adebayor and is looking for another winger too.
Manchester United’s Ashley Young is on the radar but that depends on his contract talks at Old Trafford.
Villa have already tapped into the French market to uncover Jordan Amavi and Idrissa Gueye. Ayew now looks likely to follow his brother Andre, who joined Swansea, to the Premier League.
Ayew’s representative Mark McKay of Excel Foot said: ‘Jordan has had plenty of interest but Aston Villa have made their offer and things are moving quickly.
‘Jordan is fast, strong and will suit how Villa like to play. He scored against some of France’s top teams last season and has proven himself on the international stage with Ghana.
‘I’m positive he will be a big success in the Premier League.’
