A special meeting and induction ceremony during which new Fellows and Corporate, and Associate members were inducted into the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IETG) has taken place in Accra.
The Chief executive officer of Mchammah company Mr Ebenezer Kakra Hammah was among of the new members
Twelve engineers in the Civil/Road category; 18 in the Electrical/Electronics category; 52 in the Construction category; 16 in the Quantity Surveying/Architecture category; 9 in the Mechanical/Agriculture category; 8 in the Chemical/Mining category and 17 in the Building category were received into membership at the ceremony.

Three Fellows―Engr. George Eduful, Engr. Issa Adams ―were also inducted into membership of IETG in the year 2016.

Speaking as the event on Thursday, the President of IETG, Engr. Emmanuel Boadu, urged all professional engineers and technologists to uphold the tenets of high professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Engr. Boadu said IETG would not compromise on excellence, adding that the Institute abhorred shoddy works and would, therefore, ensure that projects were competently and satisfactorily executed.

In a presentation on ‘Developing Entrepreneurship Skills among Engineers’, Nana Tweneboa Boateng, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of EMPRETEC noted that the practice of starting a business was a response to identified opportunities.
Nana Boateng said an entrepreneur should have a vision backed by ideas, take initial responsibility to cause a vision to come into reality and commit himself to completing a task.
He, therefore, urged the inductees to create excellence as a habit and make self-employment their goal.

The Chairman for the occasion, Engr. John Tettey, pledged the commitment of IETG to its vision of becoming the definitive leader in all segments of Hands-on engineering professional practice by providing superior Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and Training.

Engr. Tettey said equally critical was the realization of IETG’S mission of providing opportunities for enhanced technical competence by offering comprehensive, cutting-edge education and training to members and the engineering industry.

He added that IETG remained committed to advancing professionalism and efficiency of industry through alliances with other engineering institutions and associations worldwide.

IETG is a Professional Body, first registered as the Ghana Institution of Technician Engineers under the Professional Bodies Registration Decree (NRCD 143) 1973 on the 30th of May, 1986.

The Institution later rebranded to the ‘Institution of Incorporated Engineers’ on the 27th of August, 1996 and then to the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana to conform to global trends in the engineering profession
IETG derives its
membership from the Mechanical, Civil, Automotive, Marine, Aviation, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical and Allied engineering professions, and is mandated by the law of Incorporation with the Registrar-General’s Department to register Incorporated Engineers, Technologists, Engineering Technicians and Craftsmen.

Currently, the two engineering professional bodies  licensing engineering practitioners in Ghana are IETG and the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) which, together, form the Engineering Council of Ghana under the Engineering Council ACT, 2011 (Act 819).
