New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for the Okere Constituency in the Eastern Region, Dan Botwe, has revealed that he had been improving security at his residence following the death of the late MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu of the Abuakwa North Constituency, who was killed at his home in Accra by robbers.

Mr. Dan Botwe, escaped what he calls a near-death experience this dawn, when three armed robbers stormed his home at 12:30am, and held him and his wife hostage for nearly 45 minutes.

Laptops, mobile phones and an undisclosed amount of money were stolen by the robbers.

Narrating his ordeal to Accra-based Joy FM, Mr. Dan Botwe said, “I heard some noise and opened my eyes and saw about three people holding pistols on us, me and my wife and demanding things. They asked if I had a gun and I said no.

“They started ransacking the whole place and took my wife’s jewellery and some other things. It was a near-death experience and I was praying and consoling my wife as one of the armed men held a gun to us in our bedroom,” Mr Botwe said in the interview.

According to Mr. Botwe, he usually watches television and sleeps around 1:00am mostly but his travel plans for Friday forced him to sleep earlier than the usual time that night.

Mr. Botwe indicated that he improved security at his residence after the MP for Abuakwa North, JB Danquah-Adu, was murdered in his home two months ago.

“I changed all my locks and added additional security and we are still in the process of improving security in my house here and in the constituency,” he stated.

My daughter called family members to call police

Mr. Botwe said for sixteen years, he had never experienced such an incident at his home. Luckily for him, the armed men were unable to enter his daughter’s room.

“Fortunately, they could not enter my daughter’s room so she was able to call close family relatives who called the police.”

Two security men nabbed over robbery attack

Meanwhile the Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two security officers over the robbery attack.

One of the two is a personal security guard at Mr. Botwe’s Tema residence, whereas the other is a security guard in the neighbourhood.

According to the Community 18 District Police Command, the two were picked up following inconsistencies in their account.

Mr. Dan Botwe is the Minority Chief Whip; a former General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party and NPP Campaign Strategist for the November election.
