The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Central Regional Chairman has testified to the “disorganised” campaign undertaken by the party ahead of the 2016 elections.
Allotey Jacob said the party’s regional chairpersons were sidelined and starved of essential campaign materials, in the heat of last year’s crucial elections.
Taking the path of frankness, he said he was not given even a campaign t-shirt, despite repeated pressure.
“That is the campaign we had…call any regional chairman and ask them,” he said on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo Wednesday.
The revelation confirmed findings by the Professor Kwesi Botchwey Committee that partly attributed the NDC’s defeat last year to its uncoordinated campaign.
The 13-Member Committee established that the mobilization and distribution of logistics were “unplanned and uncoordinated.”
It said there were widespread complaints about a general lack of logistics across the country to cater for the polls.
The leaked 455-page Report cited constituencies in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions where it said logistics for the monitoring of the elections arrived late.
“In the Upper West region, in particular, constituents complained that, as a result of the late arrival of the money for monitoring, the region was unable to monitor the elections in the region,” the document said.
The Report also revealed how polling agents of the NDC were fed by the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Election Day.
“In the Upper West, for instance, it was reported to the Committee that, some of the polling agents were not fed up to 4 pm on the day and had to rely on the food that was supplied to the NPP polling agents,” the leaked report said.
The NDC has taken the path of denial after Joy News intercepted a copy of the report, but the party’s Central Regional Chairman has confirmed the document’s authenticity.
Mr Jacob said the leaked report serialised by Joy News was exactly what was presented to them during a PowerPoint presentation at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
