New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has claimed that he never bribed a judge during the many years he practiced law in Ghana.
Nana Addo addressing law students at the University of Cape Coast on Friday attributed his success as a Lawyer to great research and better arguments he put forth during his court appearances.
“For the several years that I was in practice, I never ever on one occasion had to see a judge in chambers as they say, none of the cases that I did were as a result of my seeing a judge in chambers…,” he said.
The NPP flagbearer who took his Rise and Build tour to the Central region advised the students to develop the taste for better argument as that was a key to his success as a Lawyer.
He further called on the students to imbibe the spirit of honesty and also ‘uphold those kinds of principle that at the end of the day, you would get judgment based on the cogency of your argument, the skill of your advocate, the knowledge of the law and his presentation.’
“I would hope that all of you would see that it is possible if you have the right mindset to make the sort of contribution I have been able to make…it is important that the value system that you embrace, one absolute key of honesty is necessary…,” he said.
Nana Addo further commended ‘enterprising investigative journalist’ Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ for exposing corruption in the Judiciary.
His exposé, Nana Addo said, was necessary as the issue of corruption was undermining the confidence of people in the 3rd arm of government.
Nana Addo also called on the judicial council to follow due process and also punish offenders.
