Giwa XI Triumphs Over Afro-Arab XI in Peace Match Ahead of 2024 Elections

The Giwa XI team, led by the Adantem Hene of Okuapeman, Sariki Abass Giwa I, secured a hard-fought victory over the Afro-Arab XI, captained by the Youth Ambassador for Peace and Development, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu.

The friendly match, held at the newly renovated Afro-Arab Arena in Kokomlemle, Accra, ended with a nail-biting 16-15 scoreline in favor of Giwa XI.

This symbolic event was organized to promote peace and unity among the youth in Zongo communities across Ghana. It highlighted the importance of maintaining harmony before, during, and after the 2024 general elections. The Afro-Arab Arena, which recently underwent significant renovations, provided an ideal setting for the initiative, reinforcing its role as a center for community development and peacebuilding.

Speaking after the match, Ambassador Alhaji Salamu Amadu, who is also the President and Founder of the Afro-Arab Group of Companies, underscored the significance of the event. “Peace is a precious asset that should not be taken for granted. I urge the youth in Zongo communities to stay away from violence. Ghana is the only place we have, and it is our responsibility to protect it,” he stated.

Sariki Abass Giwa I echoed these sentiments, calling on the youth to unite and champion peace within their communities. He expressed his hope that the 2024 elections would stand out as one of the most peaceful in the country’s history, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and collaboration.

The event also served as a reminder to political leaders to prioritize peace. Ambassador Amadu urged Ghana’s major political parties to preach unity among their supporters to prevent divisive actions. He praised the National Election Taskforce, led by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for their dedication to ensuring a safe and secure electoral process.

The peace match went beyond the game itself, delivering a strong message about the value of unity and responsible democratic participation. It was a vivid demonstration of how sports can serve as a unifying force, inspiring Ghanaians to work together for the nation’s progress and stability.
