Baaba Botchway who emerged 1st Runner Up at TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2017 and Psychiatric Nurse by profession has embarks on a house to house visitation of healed and discharged patients in communities in Achimota – Accra, to celebrate the month of Love (Valentine’s day) and to support the Mental Health Authority on its follow up services.
The generous beautiful Nurse who has over the years celebrated her special day with the sick, poor and needy donated hampers to the discharged mental patients as a gesture to put smiles on the faces and their guardians.
Addressing the gathering during the visitation, the Lead Founder of the PsycHealth Ghana Foundation, Baaba Botchway, said she realised that mental health awareness was not prioritised in Ghana, for which reason she established the foundation to help bring about a change in attitude.
“If we want to prosper as a country, we must deal with mental health issues. We need to invest and get the funding needed to run operations. We would also appreciate if the NHIS adds mental health related issues to their list. In fact, there should be a deliberate intervention aimed at advocacy and behavioral change. There must also be a comprehensive response to the issues of mental health by government.”
Baaba urged those whose relations and friends suffered from mental illness to engage them in productive activities to accelerate their healing process.
“PsycHealth Ghana Foundation”, the foundation aims at educating the public on mental health related issues to help reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and help strengthen the support system.
