Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah steers Al Khartoum to reach CECAFA Cup semi-finals

Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah steered his Sudanese club Al Khartoum to reach the semi-final of the CECAFA Club Cup in Tanzania.

After humbling APR 4-0 at the ongoing CECAFA Kagame Cup, Khartoum head coach Kwesi Appiah was quick to dismiss claims of playing against weak opponents.

It was the second time in the three week tournament that his side from Sudan was scoring more than three goals after defeating Telecom 5-0 in their opening match of the competition.

I knew it was going to be hard from the onset. When am preparing for a competition, I take all teams to be at the same wavelength, there is nothing like weak or strong team, its good preparation will set us apart from APR today

An opener by Atif Khalid after ten minutes, a brace from Amin Ibrahim in the 20th and 40th minutes gave Khartoum a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the break.

Osman Salaheldin came off the bench to drill the last nail in the coffin as Khartoum qualified for the semi finals for the first time.

Appiah said the early goal got his team going.

The first goal came early and that made work easy for us as it disorganized APR, luckily they never recovered

Khartoum will wait for the winner between Gor Mahia and Malakia before they can know their semifinal opponent on Friday.
