The Sefwi-Wiawso Divisional Police Command has apprehended five people for alleged involvement in stealing two-week-old twin babies.
The five people reportedly stole the baby at Punikrom in the Waiwso Municipality of the Western North Region.
They are Paulina Owusu 26, Haruna Yusif 36, Stephen Owusu 32, Kofi Nkrumah, 24, and Sampson Addai, 33 years.
The Waiwso Divisional Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Christopher Dzakel, while confirming the incident, said, his outfit had intelligence on the 14th of March 2021 that one of the suspects, Paulina Owusu had contracted four men to steal a baby.
In a report filed by Ghana News Agency, DSP Dzakel said immediately he got wind of this, his men quickly rushed to the place where these four men who had been contracted were hiding and arrested them.
The five were later sent to the Wiawso magistrate court where they were remanded into police custody to reappear on Monday, March 29, 2021.
The mother of the twins, Abena Owusuaa, said the prime suspect (Paulina Owusu) came to her house pretending to sell meat to her only to arrange to steal her babies.
