Lawyer for the two embattled radio panelists, Chris Ackummey, has appealed to judges in the country to forgive his clients like they forgave former NPP general secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie when he offended them during the election petition hearing.
According to him, the BNI is right in stating that Alistair Tairo Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn pose no threat to judges.
The Supreme Court has formally written to the panelists and the owner of the station to appear before it next week over the threat.
Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Friday, Mr Ackummey said even though he concedes that his clients were reckless in their utterances, the bench must temper justice with mercy.
“Why are the judges now in apprehension of fear? Kennedy Agyapong made similar statements and went unpunished. The BNI is saying the gentlemen have no means of carrying out the threat and I think we should accept it.
“I will plead with the judges to temper justice with mercy. They have done it before, this is not the first time…in the ‘gbeshie case’ when Sir John made a similar thing and his solicitor pleaded passionately, he was forgiven so my clients must equally be forgiven and admonished,” he said.
