The Gunners triggered Partey’s release clause of £45million in order to acquire his services from Spanish side, Atlético Madrid.
After completing the deal on transfer deadline day, the 27-year-old could not join his new teammates as he immediately travelled to Turkey to play in Ghana’s two international friendlies against Mali and Qatar. During his time with the Black Stars, he provided two assists as Ghana thumped the Asian champions 5-1.
Having been away on international assignment in the last five days, the Ghana star finally arrived in London.
He is now in contention to play a part in the team’s crucial game against Manchester City this weekend.
Mikel Arteta could be forced to play the 27-year-old who was his ultimate target throughout the transfer window.
While at the Wanda Metropolitano, Partey won the Europa League as well as the Super Cup in 2018, and finished as a Champions League runner-up in 2016.
After capturing one of his top targets this summer, Arteta told the club’s website: ‘We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high quality player to our squad.
Thomas Teye Partey is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Arsenal and is the vice-captain of the Ghana national team.
