A Sunyani Magistrate Court has remanded a 23-year old undertaker, Bismark Baafi into police custody in connection with the burning of a toll both at Fiapre following the announcement of the election results last Friday.
His arrest and remand bring to two the number of people who have so far been arrested by the police in connection with the matter.
Last Monday, the police arrested the assemblyman for Dumasua, near Sunyani; Mark Tetteh believed to be the prime suspect of the incident.
A group of young men, allegedly led by Tetteh were set the booth ablaze moments after the announcement of the results.
Reports say that attendants at the booth had to jump out of the window while the booth was in flames in order to save their lives.
Illegal operators
It has emerged that some people went to the toll yesterday to collect tolls from drivers commuting from Sunyani to Berekum and from the Berekum end to Sunyani and beyond.
They ran away this morning when the officials of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) and police men went there after receiving a hint about the illegal operation.
An official of the GHA who pleaded anonymity said after eyewitnesses identified the perpetrators,a report was made to the police leading to their arrest.
He urged drivers to refuse to pay tolls to such people while efforts were being made to put up a temporal structures to enable the attendants resume work tomorrow under the guard of security men.
Loss of income
The GHA official explained that the average collection at the booth a day is between GHC2, 700 and GHC2, 800 a day.
He projected that the state has therefore lost more than GHC13, 500 since the incident happened about five days ago.
He called on police to provide security to the other four toll booths in the region to avert the occurrence of such incidents.
Sankore clashes
Meanwhile one person has been arrested following clashed between supporters of the NDC and the NPP in the aftermath of the elections.
The acting Brong Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer, Mr Sampson Gbande told the Daily Graphic that Amos Asare, alias Anointing who was arrested had been granted bail by the Goaso Magistrate Court to reappear on December 28, 2016.
