Fadama 133 Emerge Champions of Youth Peaceful Elections Soccer Gala

Fadama 133 were crowned victorious against Sabon Zongo, defeating them 3-2 on penalties after the final of the Youth Peaceful Elections Unity Soccer Gala ended in a goalless draw.

The tense match saw both teams battle it out without finding the back of the net during regular time, leading to the decisive penalty shootout where Fadama 133 came out on top.

In the third-place playoff, Newtown secured a 2-1 win on penalties against 441 Nima after their match ended 1-1 in normal time. Both teams put on a spirited performance, with Newtown eventually clinching third place.

This thrilling tournament was part of the Youth Peaceful Elections Unity Soccer Gala, dubbed “One Goal, One Vote,” held at the Kawukudi Astroturf Park.

The event, themed “Football for Unity, Football for Peace,” saw 16 teams from various communities come together to promote peaceful elections ahead of the December polls in Ghana, with a grand prize of GH₵10,000 at stake.

However, the winners, Fadama 133, took home a total of GH₵15,000 after award-winning dancehall musician Livingstone Etse Satekla known as Stonebwoy donated GH₵10,000 to the top three teams, with Sabon Zongo receiving GH₵3,000 while third place Newtown received GH₵2,000 from the donated total amount.

Several prominent figures graced the event, including Serki Hakeem Musah, the Madina Nkosouhene, and Asa Awel Abdel Aziz Fadama, the Kajanga Youth Chief.

Their presence underscored the significance of community leadership in fostering peace, particularly as the country heads towards general elections.

Speaking after the tournament, organizer Awalu Angulu expressed satisfaction with the event’s success, stating that its mission had been accomplished. He highlighted that many young talents had been discovered by scouts who attended the matches, offering promising opportunities for the players. Angulu also emphasized the importance of promoting peace, urging the youth in Zongo communities to foster harmony as the elections approach.

With the slogan “One Goal, One Vote, One Ghana,” the Youth Peaceful Elections Unity Soccer Gala resonated beyond football, serving as a reminder that unity and peace are crucial for the future of the nation.
