A former GREDA boss, Dr. Alexander Tweneboah, has been slapped with a two-year jail term following his involvement in Sim box fraud.
The Financial and Tax Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe also fined him GH¢24,000.00 (2000 penalty units) after he was found guilty on all three counts of operating telecommunication services without a license, possession of communication devices without lawful authority and interfering with the sending and transmission of communications signals.
According to Daily View Gh , Dr Tweneboah’s illegal activities cost the State “some considerable amount of money” although prosecution argued it amounted to $900,000.
Dr. Tweneboah pleaded not guilty throughout the trial. He was arrested by the Police for engaging in Sim box fraud.
He, together with five others were arrested by a joint task force which included the National Communications Authority (NCA), and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on January 15.
The task force seized one Sim box with a 64-slot Sim server, 4G Internet modem, 1 laptop computer and mini antennas from a residence at Batsona, Manet area.
