The Presidential Candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr Edward Nasigri Mahama, has asked Ghanaians to give his party the mantle to govern affairs of the nation for an improved standard of living for all.
He said endorsing the PNC was equivalent to enjoying a better living condition.
Dr Mahama added that a PNC government would implement pragmatic measures to minimise poverty in Ghana.
“I am bringing you ideas to get you out of poverty and better your standard of living,” he said.
Courtesy call
The PNC flag bearer made the appeal during a courtesy call on the Madina Chief, Alhaji Amadu Baaba Seidu, and his sub-chiefs last weekend.
An overwhelmed Dr Mahama thanked the chief for his reception.
“I believe the other candidates will appreciate that Ghana is turning towards Dr Mahama and that is a dangerous thing for them,” he said.
According to him, for the past two decades, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had failed the country despite plagiarising some of his policies.
”They take my ideas, yet they cannot implement them. When I talked about Minister of Women and Children, I also said that the ministry must take care of deprived communities because they are special people living there,” Dr Mahama stated
November polls
Concerning the November polls, he said “the baton must be handed over to Dr Mahama. John Rawlings handed over to John Kufuor and he gave it to John Mills, who gave it to John Mahama, now John Mahama is going to give it to another Mahama. “
“Even though I am a northerner, I have never campaigned and said vote for me because I am a northerner, rather, you should vote for me because I am bringing your ideas to get you out of your poverty and etter your standard of living,” Dr Mahama added.
Zongo and northern party
Dr Mahama said the first President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, wanted to facelift Nima into a city because he recognised the contribution of the zongos to the national cake.
“Has any of the parties done it?” he asked.
If given the mandate, he said, a PNC government would support women in the zongos and other deprived communities in the country to grow their businesses.
“People living in the zongos are special people because they have travelled far away to search for greener pastures to add value to their lives. They are people who are entrepreneurial and if you assist them in their business, they will contribute to the development of the nation.
“Our founding fathers have always entrusted power to the masses and zongos are no exception,” he said.
One of the guiding principles of the party, he said, was “to appreciate anyone who is trying to climb a tree; we need to support the person. So the residents of zongos need to be supported in their business and it is the obligation of government to do that”.
Issues-base campaign
Through an interpreter, Chief Alhaji Baaba Seidu commended Dr Mahama for his visit and wished him the best throughout his campaign.
He urged him to conduct an issues-based campaign that would lead to national development.
“My doors are opened to any political party before, during and after the election. You have the liberty to campaign anywhere in Madina henceforth,” he said.
