East Dadekotopon settlers unveil new trustees; vow to petition Prez over GAF encroachment

An eight-member board of trustees has been inaugurated for the East Dadekotopon Development Trust to oversee La lands.

The Trust has been worried that over the past years, supervision of lands in the catchment area has been loose.

On July 31, 2017, an Accra High Court by a judgement empowered the new Trust, leading to the inauguration of the new board of trustees.

“The board of trustees derive their authority from the settlers and they are mandated to run the Trust for the benefit of the people of La,” a press release said.

The settlers raised concern about the encroachment of their lands by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and other organizations and individuals some of whom use personnel of GAF and the Ghana Police Service “to assist in their illegal activities on Trust lands”.

“The settlers recognize that the Ghana Armed Forces acquired land from the La Stool and share boundaries with the Trust but this did not warrant any encroachments of Trust Lands.

“The settlers take a serious view of such encroachment and will petition the present government led by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”

It said private investigators will be commissioned to look into land acquisition in the area.

Among the new members of the board Samuel Sowah Oblejuma, Jerry Oddoye, Israel Gonti Adjei and Enoch Addo Sowah.

The rest are Daniel Lartey, Andre Nii Odio Yemo, Nii Obuor Fred Afful and Robert Mensah Okpoti.

“Any persons or organizations who knowingly or unknowingly deal with any other than the reconstitute Trust does so st its own risk.”
