The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appointed Dr Ernest Kwamina Yebu Addison as Governor of the Bank of Ghana effective April 1, 2017.

He takes over from Dr Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku who announced his resignation on Wednesday.

A statement signed and issued on Thursday by the Director of Communications at the Flagstaff House, Mr Eugene Antwi said the appointment was made in accordance with Article 183 (4) (a) of the Constitution.

It said the appointment was made swiftly, “In order not to have a vacuum at the top of such an important state institution.”

“On Monday, 27th March 2017, the Presidentof the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, received a letter from Dr Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, indicated his resignation from office, effective Saturday 1st April, 2017. The President, with considerate regret, has accepted his resignation.

Dr Ernest Addison was, until his appointment the Lead Regional Economist of the African Development Bank, at its Southern African Resource Centre. Froom 2003 to 2011, he served as the Director of Research at the Bank of Ghana; and was the Chief Economist of the West African Monetary Institute, from 2001 to 2002.

Dr Addison, an Economics graduate of the University of Ghana, Legon, holds an M.Phil in Economics and Politics from the University of Cambridge, England, and Ph.D in Economics from McGill University, Canada.
