DJ Switch beats DJ Black, Mic-Smith and Vyrusky to win DJ of the Year

Eleven-year-old disc jockey, DJ Switch claimed a slice of history on Saturday night when she was crowned the Best DJ of the Year at the 2019 Ghana DJ Awards.

DJ Switch known in her private life as Erica Armah Bra-Bulu Tandoh picked the coveted award of experienced colleagues including DJ Mic-Smith, DJ Vyrusky, DJ Sly, DJ Aroma and DJ Black.

DJ Switch became the youngest individual to win the Best DJ of the Year award a year on after winning the Discovery of the Year award in 2018 edition. She also won the Best Female DJ Award.

DJ Switch’s rise

Aged just 9, DJ Switch competed and won Ghana’s most talented kids 2017 competition on Tv3 Network. Since winning the competition, there has been no stopping this young powerhouse after appearances on BBC and CNN.

Asked about her stage name, what else she can do and her future plans, Erica responded; “I picked the name DJ Switch because I switch up people’s happiness. I am not only a DJ but also a poet, dancer, an MC, a motivational speaker, actress and an advocate. I also want my parents, teachers, CNN, BBC or France24 and the world to know that being a DJ is just the beginning of my goals, I want to eventually become a gynaecologist and help women around the world”; she ended.

She recently founded The DJ Switch Foundation, advocating for quality education, adequate health care, gender equality and sustainable development.
