Ghanaian lightweight contender Richard Commey warmed up for a potential world title shot against IBF champion Mikey Garcia by battering journeyman Yardley Cruz into submission Sunday dawn.
The scheduled eight-round clash was on the undercard of the Andre Berto and Devon Alexander welterweight clash at NYCB LIVE, home of Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Overwhelming favourite, Commey (27-2) proved the bookmakers right, recording a TKO 30 seconds into the second round against the Mexican Cruz.
Just to prove he still had more energy in his tank, Commey celebrated by doing push-ups with his boxing gloves still on, in the centre of the ring.
Commey who is reported to be the mandatory challenger for Garcia improved his record to 27-2, 24 KOs.
