COVID-19 has opened my eyes about poor Health Sector – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo says Ghana has now realized the need to invest in hospitals after COVID-19 exposed the country’s weak health system.

He made this known when he addressed the country in his eight update on measures put in place to contain the deadly Coronavirus.

The President noted that COVID-19 has exposed the unequal distribution of health facilities across the country and promised of interventions to help address the inequity.

He said “The virus has also revealed the unequal distribution of healthcare facilities, as we have tended to focus our infrastructure on Accra and one or two of our other big cities. But, as we have seen, epidemics and pandemics, when they emerge, can spread to any part of our country”.

In government’s well thought out plan, hospitals are going to be built across all 88 districts that do not have theses health facilities while Ghana’s new 6 regions will be provided with Regional hospitals.
