Judicial Service workers have joined Organised Labour’s ongoing nationwide demonstration by workers across the country.

This follows an order from Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) on Monday, calling its members to participate in Wednesday’s nationwide demonstration.

“All members of JUSAG shall join the nationwide demonstration at their respective regions. Members are to put on our JUSAG lacost and re-arm-bands….Also all Regional Executives to partake in meetings of Organised Labour in the respective regions,” the statement said.

As a result, the main entrance of the court complex in Accra was closed to lawyers and litigants, Wednesday morning. Security personnel however remained at post to ensure protection and safety of Judicial Service property.

People who thronged the court on Wednesday to hear their cases and conduct other businesses were left stranded as judicial service workers were not at post.

The demonstration by Organised Labour is to force government to reduce utility tariffs, fuel prices and tax rates.

They also want a 50 percent increase in the salary of public sector workers, but government has refused to yield to their demands.
