The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi says allegations of corruption against him are unfounded and borne out of jealousy.
According to him neither he nor the GFA can be accused of corruption. He explained that corruption is the misappropriation or abuse of one’s office as a public officer and that the GFA is not a public office.
“I can never be charged with corruption,” he told host of Morning Starr, Nii Arday Clegg on Tuesday.
He, however, added that he is in no position to state unequivocally that nothing like that happens because “if somebody comes to the GFA after a staff has done something for him and he gives him five cedis.
“It may be some form of corruption. And I am not there all the time to see who collects what at what time and for purpose. So, I’ll not beat my chest.”
According to him, allegations of corruption leveled against him over the years are sickening and baseless.
“Some based on envy, pettiness, jealousy and what have you,” Mr. Nyantakyi said urging that they should be treated with the contempt that they deserve.
He added “if there is any wrong doing” he will be the first to confess to his close associates and seek for forgiveness.
“But, I haven’t done any wrong, so if you accuse me wrongly the old man upstairs [God] will judge you and I one day,” he said.
He continued that “those who pursue falsehood to tarnish people’s image for their personal, parochial, selfish and somebody’s interest one day you will pay for it. You will see it.”
