Consumption of eggs has enormous health benefits – Comfort Acheampong

The Coordinator of the Ghana National Egg Campaign Secretariat, Mrs. Comfort Kyerewa Acheampong has stated that the consumption of eggs has enormous health benefits and have therefore urged the citizenry to include eggs in their daily meal for a healthy growth.

She said eggs contains huge amounts of protein and enhances the nutritional values of the body’s systems, adding that it is affordable and served with every meal and disclosed further that eggs contain nutrients which are essential to the human body and contributes also to the wellbeing of the eye, blood circulation, muscle, bone, brain and heart.

Mrs. Comfort Acheampong made this known at the maiden edition of the regional cooking contest in Accra, organised by the TV3 reality show dubbed, “Ghana Most Beautiful” for the 16 regional contestants in partnership with the Ghana National Egg Campaign Secretariat with support from the Junction Mall, Belaqua, Fortune rice, Easycook market, Blue skies, Virgo Bond Ceramics, GTP, among others.

The Coordinator of GNECS added that eggs can be used in any meal which is prepared in all forms hence her outfit finds it prudent to be associated with the cooking contest.

World Egg Day was established by the International Egg Commission (IEC) and have earmarked second Friday in October every year to celebrate and promote the health benefits of eggs across the world and was estalished in 1964 to create a global awareness of the nutritional benefits of eggs and the need to support producers in the egg value chain.

According to her, the Secretariat is working fervently with all stakeholders in the egg industry to celebrate and take advantage of the global event, adding that eggs are of nature’s highest quality sources of protein for human growth and development and serves also as an immune booster in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a brief remark, Mr. Kwabena Addo Kusi, Public Health Specialist of the Nutrition Department of the Ghana Health Service said egg contains Vitamin A, B and Omega 3 and contributors also to good memory as well as enhances libido in humans.

In a related development, Mrs. Comfort Acheampong donated silver basins to all the 16 regional cooking contestants as Eastern Region emerged as the overall winner with 2nd and the 3rd position won by Upper West and Central Region respectively.

In the egg competition category, Central Region took the first prize as Greater Accra had the 2nd prize received cooking utensils and other household items.

The following farmers donated eggs for the competition and includes E.K. Ampofo Farms, Isaac Gyaba Nyame Aye Awie Ampa Farms, Harimat Farms, Meanan foods and WIPVAC.
