English Premiership champions, Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Augsburg left-back Abdul Baba Rahman, reports in Germany claim.
The Blues have agreed a fee in the region of £18m for the Ghanaian international, according to Sport Bild.
Rahman is set to replace Filipe Luis at Stamford Bridge after the Brazilian completed a return to Atletico Madrid earlier this week.
The 21-year-old Ghanaian impressed in the Bundesliga last season and Jose Mourinho believes he can challenge Cesar Azpilicueta for a starting spot with the West London club.
Reports in Italy last week had claimed Chelsea had already agreed personal terms with Rahman ahead of agreeing a fee with Augsburg.
According to Rahman’s agent, Gianluca DiMarzio, he has agreed a five-year deal with the Premier League champions worth £1.5m-a-season.
Augsburg’s high price-tag for Rahman had seen Chelsea linked with a move for Galatasaray’s Alex Telles but it appears they have now secured their top target.
The German club will make a healthy profit from the sale, having paid less than £2m when they signed him last summer.
Chelsea get their season underway in the Community Shield against Arsenal tomorrow while they face Swansea in their opening Premier League game next week.
