Breaking News: Chairman Wontumi freed

The Ashanti regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako has been admitted to bail by an Asokwa Magistrate court.

He was granted bail in the sum of GHC 20,000.00 with two sureties; one landed property and a cash deposit of ten thousand.

Mr Antwi-Boasiako appeared before the court on the charge of assault after he allegedly slapped MP for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah, and constituency secretary Felix Ibrahim.

The incident is said to have occurred at a polling centre during the limited voter registration exercise on Sunday.

Mr Boasiako handed himself to the police yesterday after being declared wanted, and has remained in police custody.

Hundreds of NPP supporters thronged the Kumasi Central police station, on Tuesday claiming the NPP leader’s detention is politically motivated. They say a simple case of assault should not result in detention.

The case has been adjourned to June 1, 2016
