The National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for the Madina constituency, Francis Xavier Sosu, has questioned the contribution of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Boniface Abubakar Saddique to the development of the area.
Mr. Sosu says that although Alhaji Boniface has been a Minister for Inner Cities and Zongo Development before being reassigned as a Minister of State at the Office of the Vice-President, there is nothing to show for his contribution to the development of the area nor its people, which has a large Zongo community.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Xavier Sosu said he is ready to wrestle the seat from Mr. Boniface should he get the nod to contest in the 2020 parliamentary elections.
“The people of Madina Zongo would be the best people to pass verdict on his leadership. There is nothing, it is a zero contribution to Zongo. With this election, we did branch visits, door-to-door and so on. We toured every corner of Zongo, and nothing has changed. It is not like one single project [has been done].”
It has been zero. Since he became an MP, we are very great friends but when it comes to the representing the people, it hasn’t worked,” Francis Xavier Sosu said.
He said although a Member of Parliament is not directly responsible for physical developments, he believes that such office is a platform to lobby for developments to be done and that has been lacking with the leadership of the current MP.
Francis Xavier-Sosu, a Human Rights lawyer, laid claim to victory in Saturday’s parliamentary primaries with 662 votes against his opponents, Sidi Abubakar, Ibrahim Faila Fuseini and Haija Rukaya, had 480, 219 and 16 votes respectively.
This was the lawyer’s third attempt at contesting the party’s primaries within the Madina Constituency.
