Selena lost her sight since birth and when she was in class at Mosiaso D/A Junior High School, and has never been able to regain her sight.

Despite her painful predicament the visually impaired lady says she hopes to be a top Gospel singer in Ghana and the world in future.

Speaking with Daily View Gh Thursday, Selena expressed optimism that she still has what it takes to sing the runway just like every other singers.

She shared her story of how she became blind;she tells how she suddenly went blank in class one day and how she thought that had brought life to an end for her.

I have been blind since birth, so I am used to being blind. All my friends have jobs and are all off to Uni next year. I don’t know what the future holds for me.

“I thought my whole world had come to an end because I didn’t know what to do again at that very moment.“I wasn’t eating, talking to anybody, wasn’t getting close to anyone and all I used to do was cry everyday and lock myself up in the room,” she added.

Sometimes, when I wake up, it seems like I can see. I see bright, beautiful places and colours, until I rub my eyes and all the colours and places disappear into a blank view of nothing. Except for black, which isn’t the most reassuring colour to wake up to and see all day. Sometimes it is difficult. I know I can’t blame all this on anyone, but sometimes I blame it on myself. Until my Pa died recently, we used to share our thoughts and feelings about being blind. You see, he too had the genetic disorder that I have.

Selena also revealed in the interview that her favorite Gospel singer was Ama Boahemaa.

“I love Ama Boahnmaa because she’s one person I admire so much because she’s bold, intelligent and has made Ghana proud.

“I used to see myself in her when I had my sight because I had the chance of seeing her on TV, and newspapers.”

So next time you see a blind person in the street, don’t treat them differently, just treat them with respect. And don’t pat their dog, as it is working and doesn’t want to be patted nor annoyed. There are still many things in life to be enjoyed, even when you’re blind.

The End.
