The Black Star Square formerly the Independence square will be the venue for the inauguration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo who is expected to be sworn into office on Saturday January 7.
The place is bouncing back to life after a a period of dormancy, especially since Ghana held its last independence day parade.
The Parks and Gardens Department, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the Waste Management Company Zoomlion have teamed up to give the place some shine.
On Thursday, workers of Zoomlion could be seen cleaning the place and also painting the arena including the Black Star square arch and the wing for the VIPs.
The conference room, kitchen and toilets were also being scrubbed by the workers, and on the main yard, security officials could be seen putting together last minute dress rehearsals.
Sophia Lissah , who is the Public Relations Officer of Zoomlion told Viasat 1 News the Black Star Square is 90 percent ready for the ceremony:
“We set ourselves to do a couple of things; cleaning the streets, painting cladding the trees and cleaning the independence square proper and i can say that work is about 90% complete, because a lot has gone on here.”
The company has also been to other parts of Accra cleaning the streets and according to Sophia Lissah this is being done for free as part of Zoomlion’s corporate social responsibility.
“This is being done at no cost to the government. the company is taking it up upon ourselves as our corporate social responsibility in reaching out to our communities,” she revealed.
“Everyone knows for a fact that we are the biggest waste management company in the country, if not Africa, so we are doing this as our major contribution to the the development of the country,” she added.
