The Kumawood Actress Benedicta Gafah has disclosed that Bisa Kdei’s popular song ‘Mansa’ shot her to fame.
Benedicta who was featured in the ‘Mansa’ video was adjudged the Best Actress Lead Role for the 2015 5th Kumawood Akoben Film Festival (KAFF) Awards recently held in Kumasi.
According to the Actress, most people she encounters call her ‘Mansa’.
The ‘Mansa’ video is the most watched on Youtube.
“Of course yes, the video has made me popular than I was because right now many people see me and they are like ‘Mansa Benedicta Gaffah’. Before the KAFF awards, I went to the Police Headquarters in Accra and as soon as I got there, everyone was like ‘Mansa’, ‘Mansa’ and I was like wow,” she gaily said.
Speaking on Ultimate E-Review hosted by Naa Klordey Odonkor, she explained that after series of postponement on the date for the shooting of ‘Mansa’ video due to her work schedule, they later arranged a date.
The KAFF Best Actress indicated that she did not want to be part of the video because she lacks dancing skills.
“We talked about this last two years, he wanted to feature me on a certain song but it didn’t work. So later he said Benedicta I want us to work on ‘Mansa’ video, so my Manager was like Benedicta why don’t you do it. I am not so much into these videos and I was like what if I am asked to dance, I don’t know how to dance,” she recalled.
“Afia Yakubu’, the movie Benedicta personally produced got her 12 nominations in the KAFF awards.
“I feel so proud to be the winner of the best actress of the KAFF awards. I would say that of all the movies I have acted in, though in every movie I really do work hard but for this movie I think I worked extremely hard and in all I will say hard work pays,” she remarked.
She envisaged that ‘Afia Yakubu’ will be out on movie shops and outlets on February 15, 2016.
“As a matter of fact, nobody knew I was the Producer for the movie except the Director, Rev. Isaac Aidoo. I told my Manager not to include my name on the nominations list as the Producer. I didn’t want my name to be out there yet, I wanted everything to start in 2016. When I was shooting the movie, I ran away from the set because I was so tired, I am not used to this typical village girl or comedian because I didn’t see that in me,” she said.
“So I told the Director I wanted either Matilda Asare or Nana Ama McBrown to play that role. I would like to play the normal city girl role which Anita played. He said if I don’t play that character he would not direct the movie,” she intimated.
