The Prime Minister of Benin, Lionel Zinsou, has come out unscathed following the crash landing of the helicopter in which he was travelling.
This is according to his daughter in a tweet who revealed the helicopter crashed in a stadium in Djougou in the country’s northwest region.
The helicopter crashed while landing at a stadium in the city of Djougou, a spokesman for Benin’s interior ministry, Leonce Houngbadji, told the AFP news agency.
No-one in the helicopter was hurt, he added. Mr Zinsou, who was appointed prime minister of Benin in June, has said he will contest for the Beninese presidency in February’s election as a candidate of the ruling Cowry Forces for an Emerging Benin (FCBE) party.
Reuters reported earlier this month that Mr Zinsou’s announcement put an end to speculation Benin’s current president, Thomas Boni Yayi, was seeking a third term.
