The 2016 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) begins today Monday, June 13 to Friday, June 17, across the country at 1,598 examination centres.

A total of 461,013 candidates from 14,267 public and private junior high schools are due to sit the examination to gain admissions into Senior High Schools.

The candidates; 239,963 males and 221,050 females, would take part in the examination to be supervised by 15,695 invigilators.

WAEC said 57 visually impaired candidates would also take part in the examination.

It said the Council had also secured the services of 1,598 supervisors and 1,515 assistant supervisors.

WAEC has decided to fly examination questions papers to the examination centres in a bid to avoid the recurrent leakages.

Sources at WAEC say the questions were printed outside Ghana and were flew into the country recently.

The questions have reportedly been flown by helicopter to the upper regions of Ghana where the BNI and WAEC officers are expected to distribute them.

According to the council, it has employed stringent measures to ensure a leakage free B.E.C.E questions this year.

There were widespread leakages in the 2015 BECE.
