Bawumia starts state visit to Cuba with visit to Revolution Square

Ghana’s Vice President Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia is kicking off an official visit to Cuba on Thursday, with a tribute to Cuban national hero Jose Marti, at the Revolution Square in Havana.

Bawumia will also hold official talks with Cuban Vice President Ines Maria Chapman, and attend a medical students graduation ceremony at Havana’s Karl Marx Theater, in addition to other activities.

Cuba and Ghana will celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations in December, maintain friendly ties and encourage cooperation in areas such as agriculture, tourism, sports, education, science, technology and health.

Cuban medical collaboration with Ghana, the first sub-Saharan African country to establish diplomatic relations with the island, began in 1983.

Almost 20 Cuban health professionals are working in Ghana, and 458 young Ghanaians are studying in Cuba.
