Baby thief arrested at Karaga

A woman who is alleged to have absconded with a baby boy she snatched from his grandmother has been arrested.

The suspect, Vida Golomesio, 38, was arrested at Karaga on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, where she had absconded to with the boy.

Vida is said to have snatched the baby in front of the West Hospital in Tamale, on Sunday, October 4, 2015.

The suspect was spotted at Karaga, 96 kilometres away from Tamale, after the police had sent distress calls on the incident to all police stations in the region.

The baby has since been reunited with his mother.

Background

The baby’s mother is said to have been taken to the hospital in labour at 2 p.m. on that Sunday.

After she had been delivered of the baby boy, she was discharged at 6 p.m. on the same day.

The suspect is said to have snatched the baby from his grandmother in front of the hospital while they were looking for a taxi to go home.

Investigations

The Northern Regional Police Public Affairs Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, who confirmed the story to the Daily Graphic, said the police were still investigating the case.
