The Information Services Department (ISD) has apologised for authoring the error-ridden brochure, which was distributed during Ghana’s 59th Independence Day celebration at the Black Star Square in Accra on Sunday.
The brochure, characterised by incomprehensible grammatical expressions, poor spellings and a host of other inaccuracies, has provoked outrage and condemnation among a section of the public.
Among the many mistakes in the brochure was the description of Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, as the President of Ghana.
Expressions such as, “The innovated partnership is being concretised in many areas of economic trajectory , particularly trade…”, “…rainbow at the end of the tunnel…”, and “Ghana is a low-income country…”, have also been described as ambiguous by some observers.
On social media, there have been relentless calls for someone in government to take responsibility for what has been described as a national embarrassment.
But in a press statement issued in Accra on Monday, the Information Services Department took responsibility for the error and apologised to President John Mahama and Ghanaians.
“The Department, which authored the content of the brochure, accepts responsibility and wishes to unreservedly apologise for the development,” the statement signed by the Acting Director, Francis Kwarteng Arthur, said.
However, in what exemplifies the sort of recklessness that went into producing the brochure, the press statement issued by the Department was dated January 12, 2016, instead of March 7, 2016.
