An accident involving a Metro Mass Transit bus has reportedly claimed two lives at Assin Nyankumasi in the Central region.

The two persons lost their lives in the accident which involved a truck and a metro mass bus at Assin Nyankumansi, in the Assin North District of the Central Region on Saturday.

According to the Central Regional Police, Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Irene Oppong, a diesel truck with registration number AS 7994-10 loaded with coal was traveling from Takoradi to Kumasi, while the metro mass transit bus with registration number AS 5664-Z was traveling from Kumasi to Takoradi with a set of passengers on board.

She said, on reaching a spot just after a factory called Fruit land, in the Assin North District, both vehicles grazed each other with the driver’s side, causing extensive damage to the metro mass.

One female, aged about 24 years, yet to be identified, the ASP said, died on the spot.

All injured victims were rushed to St Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu.

Two were referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment while the body of the deceased had been deposited at the said hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

She said one of the victims Hannah Kobina, aged 27years who was referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital in Kumasi died on the way and the ambulance returned to St Francis Xavier Hospital at Fosu.

ASP Oppong said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the said hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

She said the rest of the passengers, numbering about 50, had been treated and discharged.
