AMA to meet Sammy Kuffuor over sale of his property

Authorities of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly AMA would meet Black Stars Defender, Sammy Osei Kuffuor over the impending sale of his property to defray his accumulated property rate.

The AMA has posted a warning notice on Kuffuor’s Abena Attea tower on the Ring Road, which accommodates a bank and other companies over the owner’s failure to pay property rates of Ghc15, 460.

The Assembly warned it will sell the property to defray the cost in accordance with the law by Monday, October 19, if the owner does not pay the debt.

Speaking to Citi News, the Finance Director at the AMA, Samuel Aryeetey Aryee hinted Osei Kuffuor’s property might not be sold after all.

“We will be handling it in-house…we will get in touch with him, not necessarily to sell his house, but it is a warning to him that that is the last resort that we have”, he said.

Meanwhile, the AMA has set up a taskforce to retrieve monies from all defaulting property owners in the metropolis following a shortfall in its targeted internally generated funds.

Mr Aryee said the assembly has raised only 24 million out of its target of about 40 million cedis in internally generated funds. He revealed a good number of property owners in the metropolis have defaulted in paying their property and business operating permits.

He however conceded the task force made up of the Assembly’s City guards and some police officers has helped.

“At the moment although we have a lot of them anytime we get to the ground, they start paying. About 16 million cedis being owed us in terms of property rates, business operating permit etc.

So the outstanding bill is huge which we are making every effort to collect all this before the year ends.” he said.
