Business and commercial activities came to a complete standstill in the Agona West, Gomoa Central and Gomoa West constituencies in the Central Region, when the 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, last Thursday visited the constituencies on day one of his five-day tour of the region.
Nana Akufo-Addo shook the entire Agona Swedru town when he stormed there as part of his tour of the region.
The entire town went into a frenzy when his convoy entered the place through Agona Kwanyako and Agona Asafo during a tour of both place.
His security detail and police officers on duty had a hectic time controlling the crowd who mobbed him when he visited the Mandela Market.
His presence created a gridlock in the town as drivers, pedestrians and onlookers lined up along the streets to see him.
Others were also spotted standing in front of their buildings and shops to catch a glimpse of him as his convoy passed amid cheers and jubilation.
Call on Agona Chief
He first called on the Chief of Agona Swedru, Ogidigram Okrupi Nana Kobina Asiedu Botwe II, and his elders at his palace to formally greet them before visiting the Mandela market.
He was accompanied on the tour by a former Minister of Works and Housing under the Kufuor administration, Mr Kwamena Bartels, Central Regional NPP Chairman, Mr Robert Kutin, the Agona West NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Mrs Cynthia Morrison, the Agona West Constituency Chairman, Mr Kojo Addo, and other regional and constituency executives.
Mandela Market
At the Mandela Market, most of the market women abandoned their food-stuff to catch a glimpse of him, shouting “Nana we would vote for you. We need positive change’’.
Others were heard saying “we are suffering, Nana come and rescue us from the hands of the NDC’’ “We cannot pay our prepaid,’’ among other things.
Vote for change
Addressing traders at the Mandela Market, Nana Akufo-Addo urged them to vote for change as the Mahama-led administration had shown it was incapable of effectively running the affairs of the country.
He stated that the NDC had brought untold hardships to Ghanaians due to bad economic policies, and that what the NPP needed was their votes to enable the party to come back to power to move the country in the right direction.
The NPP flag bearer called on Ghanaians to have confidence in the NPP, rally behind and vote for the party in the upcoming November polls.
Human resource
He noted that the NPP had the competent human resource that had the experience to transform the economy to reflect positively in the lives of the ordinary Ghanaians who were suffering due to gross incompetence by the NDC government.
He indicated that all the sectors of the economy would be revamped to create more jobs for the teeming unemployed youth who graduate annually from various educational institutions.
He appealed to the people of Agona West to vote for him (Nana Addo) and Mrs Morrison as, according to him, the area was already a stronghold of the NPP.
Parliamentary Candidate
For her part, Mrs Cynthia Morrison called on supporters and sympathisers of the party to embark upon a vigorous campaign that would enable the party to wrest power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
She urged them to embrace the wind of change that was blowing across the country and vote massively for the NPP in the upcoming polls.
Visit to Gomoa Central
Nana Akufo-Addo also visited Abosso and Gomoa Lome. He rounded off day one of his tour with a visit to Gomoa Dawurampong, in the Gomoa West constituency, where he indicated that his government was going to build on the legacy of the Kufuor administration.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs at Gomoa Lome, he explained that bad governance was the reason why every Ghanaian in every part of the country was experiencing untold hardship.
“I want residents of Gomoa Lome to help push me and the NPP into Jubilee House. We are not coming into office because we want to steal your money or lord ourselves over Ghanaians. We are coming into office to serve, work hard and bring prosperity to all. That is why we in the NPP are in politics,” he added.
Just as he had done in Agona West, Nana Akufo-Addo urged the electorate to vote for the party’s parliamentary candidate for Gomoa Central, Naana Eyiah Quansah, describing her as an able advocate for the people of the constituency.
