The Accra Psychiatric Hospital has increased fees for services rendered patients.
The facility says it has run out of funds and needs to increase fees to keep the hospital running.
A notice pasted at the premises of the mental home indicates that every new patient will now have to pay Ghs 40 for a folder at the facility, instead of Ghs25.
The notice added that the amount would be used to supplement funds yet to be received from the central government for the treatment of patients.
The notice said “The fees are to enable (us) meet the high cost of essential non-medical consumables needed for the provision of uninterrupted care to patients.”
“These fees are only to supplement funding by the central government towards the provision of mental health care, and do not represent the full cost of care”.
Meanwhile, the Controller and Accountant General’s Department has released money for the payment of outstanding salary arrears for nurses in the three psychiatric hospitals in the country.
