It’s that time of year when friends and family think about the coming holiday with their loved ones in mind. As we reflect on this wonderful holiday, we must keep in mind that Christmas is not just any holiday but may be the most important one of the year for some people. It is a time for remembering, a time to share the goodness of your heart with others, and for expressing with words and gifts what someone means to you. It is a chance to make wishes come true and to give something from your heart. It is a chance to give a message that will express love and caring to the ones we care about the most. Have an ideal Christmas; an occasion that is celebrated as a reflection of your values, desires, affections, traditions.

As we approach the most joyous and for many of us the most sacred time of the year, our thoughts naturally turn to our loved ones, our friends, our colleagues. We wish each other a Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays according to our custom and almost instinctively say, write or sing “Peace on Earth, good will to men.”

But what do we say to our troops, our men and women who once again, will be spending the holidays in foreign battlefields where peace on earth and good will to men are just cruel incongruities?  I want to wish each of you and your families a Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season. During this time, your sacrifices mean more to us than most people will express. You are out there keeping us safe so we can be assured of a happy holiday season with our families, while limiting the time you spend with your own.

For all our first responders, thank you for going into “the office” when you don’t feel like it. Thank you for standing out and directing traffic in the cold. Thank you for working the night shift when we are safe in bed. Thank you for putting on that uniform every day. Thank you for making sure the roads I’ll be traveling will be safe and that help is available if it is needed. Thank you for doing what you do so I can do what I do.

To those of you who are working on Christmas Eve/Christmas, spending time away from your families so my family is safe and secure, I say thank you.  When we sit down to our dinner, or open our gifts, know that you will be thought of at that time, and your sacrifices honored. Please express my appreciation for you to your families.

Merry Christmas to all our readers and fans of #DailyViewGh.
