Police arrest suspects in NPP headquarters raid

The Police at Nima in Accra have confirmed a number of arrests after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) headquarters was raided at about 1am Monday.

DSP Felicia Ayensu in charge of the Nima Police Station who confirmed the arrests to Graphic Online, would however not say how many people have been arrested except to say, “Yes we have made arrests”.

Party supporters who have gathered at premises speculated that the invaders were in military uniforms.

A number of policemen have now been posted there and are keeping watch at the party office. They have cordoned off the street leading to the party office.

A source at the party headquarters told Graphic Online as many as 11 people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the unlawful night raid, which saw the invaders overpower the “Invisible Forces” security men at the party office and had them locked up and their phones taken from them.

Graphic Online understands one of the party security men has also been kidnapped.

The invaders are said to have carted some items in sacks from the offices during their operations.

Mr George Andah of the NPP told journalists at the party headquarters that the police had ask a vice chairman of the party, Sammy Crabbe to leave the place after some men believed to be supporters of the party threatened to beat him up.

George Andah who was allowed into the party offices along with a police forensic team, said he could not tell what exactly had been taken away because he does not work there. He would prefer that headquarters officials rather come in to address the issue.
