The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) would from Wednesday, October 21, 2015, begin a nationwide audit exercise to its biometric voters register which was recently compiled for its upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries as well as subsequent polls.
The two weeks event which is expected to end on November 4, 2015, will see the party publicly display its voters register for party faithful to cross check their names and make complaints or suggestions if any to party officials for considerations.
Regional and constituency party officials would be among the first recipients of copies of the voters register and are expected send same to the various branches under their watch for the exhibition exercise.
General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who announced this at a rally in the Brong Ahafo Region on Tuesday, said the exercise is geared towards preparing a final voters’ register that would be welcomed by all party faithful for their upcoming internal elections.
“We want to give you copies of the book as well as the voters register for you to compare if all the names in the book are the same as that written the register. We have heard that after the registration exercise, some people used the back door for them to be registered. We know that is not true but to be sure of ourselves, we have to conduct this auditing exercise to clear doubts,” he said to the applause of the teeming ‘akatamansonians’.
Commenting further, he urged all registered card bearing members of the party to fully participate in the exhibition exercise in order to fast-track their plans for the upcoming polls meant to elect presidential and parliamentary candidates that will represent the party in the 2016 general elections.
“All the views that will be made by members shall be incorporated into the register to make it credible for all to have confidence in the final register. We don’t want to experience any chaos during the polls.”
“We also don’t want what happened to Akufo-Addo to happen to anyone of you that after the elections he goes about complaining. When that happens, no one will listen to you.”
Copies of the final voters register, he added, will also be on sale to party chairman, candidates and party followers interested in monitoring the elections from one stage to the other at an undisclosed fee.
