President Mahama calls for prayers for those in authority

President Mahama has called on Ghanaians to pray for those in authority as he begins his tour of the Western Region ahead of the National Democratic Congress’ Presidential and Parliamentary Primaries on November 7.

Speaking at the Grace Pentecostal Assemblies of God Church at New Site near Takoradi, the President said as leaders they need God’s guidance in discharging their duties.

“The bible even says we should pray for people in authority so that He would imbibe them with divine guidance to be able to do what is right in his sight.

“So pray for all people in authority, we need God’s divine favour and one of the things that we must do is to always pray that God is with us and for me that is important because when I read the bible and I see what happened to people whom God deserted it serves as a lesson to every leader”, he added.

The President also called on Ghanaians not to do away with their values as Ghanaians.

“As our nation modernises and progresses, let’s not forget our traditional values. More often than not, when people come into the urban centres and other places we forget the values that we are taught and the first is respect for the elderly.

“If you see the way some of our young people misbehave and insult elderly people…it is not our tradition, it is not our culture”, he stressed.
