Final-year Prempeh College student falls off 3-storey building

Students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the Prempeh College in Kumasi found themselves in a state of shock when a final-year student of the school fell from the second floor of his dormitory to his death last Friday.

Another final-year student who also fell sustained multiple injuries and is now on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The student who lost his life has been identified as Samuel Asare Bediako, popularly called Classicals, of Form Three Business 4, while the other student has been identified as Tabiri Kofi Boateng of Form Three Science 3.

The incident occurred when the two, who were engaged in the usual secondary school fun and jokes, fell from the second floor of the Opoku Ware II House, one of the dormitories of the all-boys’ boarding school.

It was said that the two believed to be friends were hugging and pushing each other in front of their rooms when suddenly Bediako fell and pulled his friend along.

Student Speaking to the Graphic Online on condition of anonymity, a form three student said it happened about 5.30 p.m. last Friday when they heard shouts from some of the students who were standing on the corridor of the second floor of the dormitory.

He said when they came out from their rooms, they saw their mates lying motionless on the ground. They rushed the two to the KATH, while others went to inform the Opoku Ware II Housemaster.

According to the student, about three hours later, they were informed by the hospital authorities that Bediako could not survive.

Meanwhile, Bediako’s body has been deposited at the mortuary, while the necessary procedures are being followed to inform his family.

Reaction in the school During a visit to the school, it was observed that the students were going about their normal activities, except that those in the Opoku Ware II House were cautious and scared.

Others were also terrified at going near the wall made of metal tubes because of the fear that they would suffer a similar fate.

At the time of the visit yesterday, the headmaster was not available, while some senior members of the school were unwilling to comment on the incident.
